“Library Week” was devoted to reading to children!

We hear a lot about the value of reading to young children thanks to the All of Poland Reads to Kids campaign. On Monday, May 10, in the school library, representatives of the Volunteer Fire Brigade, the Police, the Director of the Municipal Cultural Centre, as well as librarians from the middle school and public libraries, also joined the campaign.

For reading, we chose the series by Tove Jansson about the Moomins, in which mysterious characters lead a fairytale life full of adventures. During the Storytime Meeting at the public library, there were also plenty of book-related activities. The little ones painted kittens—from the story Kitty Troubles by Irena Landau—and made gnomes from the poem by Jan Brzechwa of the same name. The youngest groups demonstrated a good knowledge of children’s literature by solving challenging riddles.

Rainy weather prevented the last group of preschoolers from visiting, so the Library Week will continue for one more day. We also concluded the Municipal Art Contest for illustrations to the book Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Children from the preschool and kindergarten classes of schools in Wierzchosławice, Łętowice, and Mikołajowice participated. Fourteen of the participants received diplomas and book prizes.

Five first prizes were awarded to:
Rozalia Cisoń, Michał Wiśniewski, Gabriela Bąk, Aleksandra Pikus, Gabriela Ziemian

Four second prizes were awarded to:
Patrycja Gdowska, Julia Czyż, Michał Bogusz, Adrian Kozioł

Five third prizes were awarded to:
Bartek Sroka, Tymoteusz Karpiel, Anna Ziółkowska, Aleksandra Borzęcka, Emilia Jagiełło

The exhibition of children’s works can be viewed in the library.
